Kenneth Chamlee

Kenneth Chamlee is the author of If Not These Things (Kelsay Books, 2022) and The Best Material for the Artist in the World, a poetic biography of 19th-century American landscape painter Albert Bierstadt (Stephen F. Austin University Press, 2023). Now emeritus professor of English at Brevard College, Ken taught literature and creative writing for forty years and was the first director of the Looking Glass Rock Writers’ Conference. His poems have appeared in The North Carolina Literary Review, Tar River Poetry, Cold Mountain Review, Kakalak, The Worcester Review, Ocean State Review, Weber: The Contemporary West, and many other places. Ken authored two contest-winning chapbooks, Absolute Faith (ByLine Press) and Logic of the Lost (Longleaf Press), is a multiple Pushcart Prize nominee, and is the winner of The GSU Review (Georgia State) Writing Award and the Word Journal Poetry Prize. Ken served as a 2022-2023 Gilbert-Chappell Distinguished Poet for the North Carolina Poetry Society. He has received residencies with the Vermont Studio Center, the Virginia Center for Creative Arts, and the Hambidge Center, holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, and teaches for the Great Smokies Writing Program of UNC-Asheville.
